Welcome aboard the SSA Isolation.

Thanks to your unique skill set you have been selected for a possible position aboard our new state of the art exploration and scientific research vessel.

Please be assured that as a result of the incident with Isolation's sister ship, all safety protocols have now been updated and there is
virtually no chance of the coaxial induction drive suffering from a cascade failure.

Please submit your applications below.

So, a play by post forum RPG? I'm going to be a little stricter than JarPG but not a lot, just say if you want to play, I'll give people a day or two random amount of time to register interest and then we'll see what happens.

All cadets at the Academy undergo a broad range of training which gives them a solid grounding in all the fields that may be necessary on a shipboard mission. However, at higher levels it becomes necessary to specialise in a subject area based on your future shipboard role.

Please specify your desired training path:

You let out a groan as you struggle up to your feet, a florescent light overhead flickers and sparks irregularly. Looking around you can see your companions in much the same condition, no one seems to be seriously hurt, just disoriented and confused.

Previously...

As the star students of your class you have been handpicked to be taken on a tour of the SSA Isolation, it's nearing completion and should be ready for launch in the next few months; your first assignment will most likely be on one of the local runabout vessels but this tour is intended to show you the kind of ship you could one day aspire to serve aboard.

Commander Halbert has already shown you the state of the art medical bay, next on your itinerary is the new matter transmission platform. On route you pass a few other groups of cadets on similar tours, all of them seem to be very excited.

Commander Halbert drones on about the new experimental assisted computer core which supposedly means that even a skeleton crew could operate the Isolation for short periods of time; finally you reach the matter transmission room where Commander Halbert starts explain how this kind of device will be useful for deploying and retrieving scientific equipment from asteroids, planets and so forth.

Suddenly the lights dim and shift to an amber colour, pulsing slowly in time with an background siren. The Commander flips open his data device and taps the screen a few times before putting it away.

"Cadets, nothing to worry about, it seems there's been a small incident on one of the other decks. I just need to check that nothing has been damaged, stay here and don't touch anything."

The Commander promises he’ll be back in a few minutes before heading out of the room.

Now…

That’s the last thing you remember properly, the Commander had been gone for just a few minutes and you suddenly felt sick to the bottom of your stomach before fainting.

What am I wearing, what tools do I have at my disposal, am I carrying the same type of device as the commander?

In case I do have the same type of device, I would like to figure out if I can call someone, and ask whats going on, or read some information.

All of you are wearing standard jumpsuits in appropriate colours for your speciality. Although you recognise the device the Commander was using as a GADGET (GADGET Adaptable Dynamic General Electronic Tool) you don't have one on you; since the Isolation is still largely classified all electronic devices were taken off you.

However, since you are looking there is a fairly standard looking toolbox in the room (looks like work has been going on here recently) and there is a computer terminal against one wall.

The engineer, Hutton, approaches the computer terminal on the wall and asks his question, it takes a moment before a jittery synthesised female voice responds.

Cadet Andy Esser opened his eyes, his head was pounding like he'd spent the night drinking and his gut was feeling much the same way.

He slowly raises his head to look around, nothing seems familiar. He can hear groans from other people but his vision is still blurry. He sits up and lean's against the bulkhead and tries to get his focus back. After a minute or so he can can focus his eyes and is able to see a number of his classmates in a similar situation, as well as some people he didn't recognise, but were also wearing cadet jumpsuits. He makes a mental note that there are no others wearing Command black stripes.

He can see one Cadet seemingly talking to himself, presumably trying to get the attention of the ships computer and another at a console in the corner.

"Commander! Commander? Where are you?" He calls out...

Cadet Lentz comes to, groaning like the rest. He tries to quickly snap out of the confusion, first checking himself for any signs of injury before attending the others; "Is everyone ok? Anyone need medical assistance?"

Lentz looks around the room, looking for some sort of light to check everyones pupil diletions for signs of head trauma.

Title: Re: Isolation

A black suited Cadet starts calling out for the Commander, he takes a few steps towards the door which begrudgingly slides open to show the corridor outside (the lights out there are also dimmed but at least they aren't flickering). Unfortunately there is no response to his calls.

Meanwhile another Cadet in a blue medical jump suit gets to his feet, he brushes himself off and admires his physique before asking if anyone needs any medical attention. He spots a toolkit over one side of the room and grabs a handheld flashlight from it.

The green suited engineering Cadet continues to query the computer which tries it's best to keep up with his questions.

"Computer: Show me a ship schematic, authorisation ... just show me a schematic... please. AND, what is the status of this vessel and its crew? What's the current complement?"

"This terminal is... is... incapable of providing a... a... graphical display."
"The S... S... S... S... A Isolation has not yet been commissioned. No permanent crew... crew... have been assigned. According to ship's logs the following officers are currently... currently... on board: Commander Halbert, Lieutenant Commander Humphreys, Lieutenant Commander Humphreys, Lieutenant Clementson, Sub-Lieutenant Evans. Locations... locations unknown. Internal sensors are... are... offline."

After calling out, with no response, for the Commander, Andy begins to check the room, and the hallway outside. The automatic doors took some convincing to open, only opening partially or simply refusing to budge, until finally one side slid open and Andy was able to to pop his outside the room. The corridor was dimly lit, and there seemed to be a faint haze and burning smell.

He turned back into the room. He could see his classmate, Lentz, moving between the other cadets checking them for concussions.

"Report?" He said, to no-one in particular, but hoping the medic and an engineer might shed some light on the situation.

Slowly the blackness gives way to haze, but the world feels like it's still spinning. Disoriented, Cadet Jarman rolls over to right himself and calls out "Mrrhhmrrffll." then realises he's now face to the floor. Ok, let's try that again he thinks and rolls over again and opens his eyes. The world slowly comes into focus and he props himself up.

"What on Earth just happened?" he utters as he tries to make sense of things through the fog in his mind. "What is wrong with the computer?" he thinks for a moment. "Wait... did... did the computer say there are two Humphreys!?"

Cadet Jarman gets up and walks over to the computer terminal and asks "Computer, are internal communications still operational? Are you able to open a ship-wide comm channel?"
Title: Re: Isolation
Post by: Relequestual on March 18, 2015, 09:32:44 am
"Hold up Jarman!..."

"Commander! Internal sensers are down, and the computer is having... problems. I would advise against a ship wide communication even if it's possible... we don't know what's out there yet. I suggest we try to make our way to engineering to fix the internal sensers to get a better idea of what's going on!"

Still without any idea as to the layout or schematic of the ship...

"Computer: How do I get to [engineering] from my current location?"

While waiting for a response, Hutton checks his pockets for anything useful...

"Commander, should everyone, err.. check what they currently have with them? I mean, did we come onto a ship without any equipment on our person?"

Cadet Baklid awakens and mutters weakly to himself "the reaper-man.. awakens" and then holds a hand to his head. He has a severe headache. His hand feel wet from touching his head. It's blood. Cadet Baklid whispers for help but phases in and out of consciousness.

Esser (Com)::Deck 6, Aft::Healthy::
Hutton (Eng)::Deck 6, Aft::Healthy::
Jarman (Ops)::Deck 6, Aft::Healthy::
Lentz (Med)::Deck 6, Aft::Healthy::Flashlight
Baklid (Tac)::Deck 6, Aft::Minor Injuries::

The orange suited Cadet Jarman rolls around on the floor and mumbles to himself before eventually getting to his feet. He seems to have caught the gist of what is happening and starts querying the computer - which responds in it’s now predictable stuttering voice, though it seems like it is slowly improving.

“Internal communications are are partially operational. A shipwide broadcast may may be possible from a command console. Command consoles are situated in the the following locations: Bridge, fore section, deck three; Captain’s Office, fore section, deck deck three; Captain’s Quarters, mid section, deck four; Engineering, aft section, decks four and five.”

Once Cadet Esser has established that there are no senior officers in the immediate vicinity he turns back to your group and asks for a status report.

Cadet Hutton instinctively stands to attention and relays what he has found out so far about the state of the ship, he further advises that they head to engineering to see if they can get the internal sensors back online and proceeds to ask for directions.

“Current location: deck six, aft section. Engineering is located on decks four four and five, aft section. The nearest elevator is approximately 30 meters port port from this location.”

Then he asks whether anyone has any equipment with them.

As per a previous post, for security reasons all of your equipment was taken off you before you came aboard for your tour. There is a basic toolbox in the room and Cadet Lentz has picked up a flashlight.

Before anyone can do anything else the yellow suited tactical Cadet groans, mutters something and looks around, he rubs his head for a moment and his hand comes away wet with blood. He looks at his hand and blinks a few times without seeming to be fully aware of what’s happening.

"Seems everyone's a bit shaken up, but nothing too serious." replies Lentz to the status update question. "No idea about the rest of the crew though. I should head to the medbay and get a first aid kit from there, just in case."

He looks around the room, checking the people he hadn't checked yet when suddenly the yellow suited Cadet groans with a bleeding head-wound before passing out again. "Shit. I need to get to the medbay ASAP and I need someone with me so we can get a stretcher. You-" he points to Cadet Esser, "stay with him and make sure he doesn't hurt himself if he comes to. I can't risk moving him just yet without at least checking him with a Med-PAC GADGET first."

"Cadet," he says, turning to Jarman "with me. Best we step it up."

"Computer - what's the shortest way to the medical bay?"

Cadet Jarman looks at the injured cadet before turning to Lentz "Ok, but give me a moment, I've just had a thought." He turns back to the computer terminal and asks "Computer, is the matter transmission platform safe to use with lifeforms?"

Jarman ponders for a moment "Hmmmm, still in progress? Well, at least it's second gen."

Jarman turns to the rest of the cadets. "Engineering is right next to the secondary sickbay, I propose we use the matter transmission platform to get Cadet Baklid to the sickbay swiftly and then we can quickly proceed to engineering. Sound like a plan?"

"Computer, set the coordinates of the matter transmission platform to the secondary sickbay on deck four, aft section."

Cadet Maya Pedersen wakes up on the cold floor with nausea rolling through her body. What -was- that? What had happened that could knock her out cold like that? There hadn't been any physical contact, beside the nausea she was fine.
Slowly, she staggers to her feet and then she remembers. Her team mates! She stares in disbelief at the room behind the forcefield which had only seconds ago been full of people she'd thought she'd one day operate a star ship with. No one left, they're all dead! The horror of it hits her full on when she realises that not only are her friends gone, she herself has only narrowly escaped certain death by being closest to the door when the Lieutenant ordered her to seek out Commander Halbert.

Where was he by the way? Had he even survived?

Right, calm down and think. Priorities first; if this is a ship-wide emergency, the best couse of action is to gather up survivors and form taskforces to secure the ship from taking more damage and return it to operational state. Now, wasn't there someone calling out for the commander? She listens carefully and walks in the direction of whoever is out there.
Title: Re: Isolation
Post by: Titan on March 19, 2015, 08:01:11 am
After listening to the other cadets, and the medic... Damnit, what was his name?, Andy agreed the best cause of action was getting to Engineering and to the secondary sickbay.

"Ok, that sounds like a plan James. Lentz, stay here for a moment, I'll go first with Hutton and secure the location. Follow us 5 minutes later. Agreed?"

Andy waited for agreement from the other cadets, technically no-one out-ranked anyone else in the room, but this was a time for leadership and control, and Andy knew he was the man for the job. The last thing we needed was disagreements and arguments. Obviously something bad has happened, either there was a major issue with the ship, we were under attack, or perhaps even both.

Andy could feel the tremors returning to his right hand, he put both hands behind his back, hoping none of the other cadets had noticed it.

Not a full update, just injecting some information.

The Matter Transmission platform looks like it could reasonably fit 2 people, you could possibly manage 3 at a time if you get cosy. It is operated manually (though an individual can put a 10 second time delay in to transport themselves); Jarman has been trained to use the MKI and the MKII looks virtually identical.

Esser (Com)::Unknown::Unknown::
Hutton (Eng)::Unknown::Unknown::
Jarman (Ops)::Deck 6, Aft::Healthy::
Lentz (Med)::Deck 6, Aft::Healthy::Flashlight
Baklid (Tac)::Deck 6, Aft::Minor Injuries::
Pedersen (Sec)::Deck 6, Aft::Healthy::

After assessing the platform, Cadet Jarman moves over to the terminal to calculate the direction and range for the transport.

Cadet’s Esser and Hutton both move to stand on the platform and Esser turns to Jarman “Energise!”. The two blur and fade away in a shimmering blue light.

Unfortunately with internal sensors and communications offline you have no way of knowing if the other two Cadets reached their destination. You’re just going to have to wait five minutes and then try another matter transmission.

However, barely a minute after they’ve gone, the doors to the matter transmission room are forced open from the other side. As the doors get just about wide enough another Cadet -this one wearing a red jumpsuit with the name Pedersen embroidered on it- squirms through the gap and into the room with you.
Title: Re: Isolation
Post by: dracuella on March 19, 2015, 01:18:50 pm
After squeezing through the doors, Cadet Pedersen comes face to face with a group of cadets standing by the matter transmission platform. "Oh hello, SO good to see you, I'm Pedersen, Security. Do you know what's been going on? I.. well, fainted, I suppose, and when I came to, the room I had just exited, leaving my team behind had been torn to shreads with my Lieutenant in it. All of them.. gone. What could cause something like that? Short of an outright attack on the ship, only a run-in with an asteroid field could do damage like that. So, has there been some sort of ship-wide breakdown? Are we under attack? Sorry for the rambling, I have so many questions.. "

She looks around and realises they've been using the platform. "Err.. are you quite certain those things are safe? I thought they were still under evaluation. And where's Commander Halbert? My Lieutenant sent me here to fetch him."
Title: Re: Isolation

Jarman looks up from the MKII Rapture controls "Good to meet you, Pedersen. And don't worry about this." he pats the side of the console. "It's just been evaluated, I'm sure I got it right this time." and he grins.

The grin subsides "Anyway, what was that you mentioned about your team being... shredded? That sounds pretty dire. So there's signs of physical damage to the ship? What in Sol is going on!?"

Jarman presses a few buttons on the console. "Ok, the platform has been reset for another transmission to the same coordinates. Just got to hope the other guys have moved from their position after arriving. Lentz, help me get Baklid onto the platform, both of you are next."

Jarman moves over to Baklid and begins lifting him onto his feet.

"Yes, the side of the ship had been torn open, sucking everyone in the room out. Come to think of it, the force field on the doors held, though, so at least that part of the system is still working." She looks at the bleeding Cadet Baklid, "so this is why we're using the RMTP. He looks in pretty bad shape. Any word from the ones you sent before him? Do we even know if they've arrived safely?" She does a quick scan of the room, checking for anything useful. "Do we have any tools to work with? I -knew- I should have insisted on keeping my GADGET. I mean, I would have liked to take notes for our exams!".

It's been said before but since Drac specifically mentioned tools, there is a tool box in the the room which contains the kind of things you'd expect - hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, etc.

"Hold it, Jarman. I said I don't want to risk moving him just yet. Let's teleport ourself to the medbay and return with a stretcher for him."

He looks at Cadet Pederson: "Were there any survivers or someone who needs medical attention?"

Turning towards the mumbling, bleeding Cadet next to him, he says "best get a move on now. I need that GADGET badly, he might have internal bleeding. And who knows who else might need my help."

Lentz steps on the platform and waits for Cadet Jarman to join him.
Title: Re: Isolation
Post by: dracuella on March 20, 2015, 11:15:16 am
Cadet Pedersen looks over at the medic, pondering the foolishness of sending off the only guy who knows how to operate the RMTP. "Oh well, if it works, it works", she thinks "If it doesn't, the poor sod on the floor is a gonner anyway". She walks over to the toolbox and examines its content. She pockets a screwdriver, puts a roll of duct tape on her belt and gauges a heavy wrench in her hand only to put it back in favour of a Stanley knife. "Just hurry it up, I don't think it's a brilliant idea to split up too much until we know what on Earth is going on."
Title: Re: Isolation
Post by: Jargon on March 20, 2015, 12:16:09 pm
Jarman stops what he is doing and turns to Cadet Lentz "I understand what you're saying but with internal sensors down, there is no way to transport ourselves back. This will be a one way trip. Also, I'm the only one with training to use matter transmission platforms, therefore I should be the last one to come through." he glances down at Cadet Baklid "Time is of the essence. What should we do?"

After thinking for a bit he turns to Cadet Pedersen and asks "What room was the one that was damaged? Was it on this deck?"

You've lost track of time but you're fairly sure it's been more than five minutes now. Assuming Esser and Hutton safely rematerialised they should have made sure the area is clear and be awaiting your arrival.

I do think, however, that we should send Lentz off with the patient first, he's not looking all that well". She indicates towards Cadet Baklid whose face has taken on an ashen colour.

"Goodness, someone didn't score very high on the stress handling test, did they? Fine, go on, I'll stay and watch over Baklied. I'm armed after all." Cadet Pedersen pulls out the Stanley knife and plays around with it in an intricate pattern of moves. "Just get your arses back here asap. I won't rest easy until I find out what's going on". She crouches down next to Cadet Baklid, checking his pulse, which is beating calmly and steadily.

That'll allow me to lock on to your coordinates and bring you back from here, stretcher and all."

As someone, somewhere may or may not have come across a GADGET I’m going to explain what they are.

Short version:
GADGET = PDA
PAC = Expansion Dongle

Long version:

GADGET Adaptable Dynamic General Electronic Tools have become standard pretty ubiquitous in the current day. As standard they provide the following functionality:

Of course there are many situations where more specialist functionality is required and this is where PACs (Portable Adapter Chips) come into play. These can be slotted into any GADGET and provide custom hardware and software for bespoke applications. A standard GADGET can have one PACs installed.

There are literally hundreds of different types of PACs but some of the more common ones include:

Pedersen (Sec)::Secondary Sickbay, Deck 4, Aft::Healthy::Screwdriver, Duct Tape, Stanley Knife

Cadet Jarman reluctantly concedes to the medical professional’s expertise. He waits for Pedersen to get onto the platform and then activates the matter transmitter - hopefully sending them to the secondary sickbay.

...

Pedersen, Lentz, you are surrounded by a bright blue glow and a whining noise. As it finally dies down your vision clears you find yourself stood in what is clearly the sickbay. The lights are dimmed but sufficient to see by - there are a number of biobeds, an active computer console, a cupboard at one side of the room has been opened and shows a selection of medical tools and several pre-packed first aid kits. Cadet Esser is stood near a desk and holding what appears to be a GADGET.

There was shimmering blue light which Andy saw in his periphery, two cadets materialised; the medic, and another cadet that Andy didn't know.

The unknown cadet walked up to Andy, "Pardon me, are you Cadet Hutton?" She pauses for a moment, "Oh, sorry, Esser, I was looking for Hutton, do you know where he is?" She continues.

"He went that way to check out Engineering, that was about 10 minutes ago, you guys took longer than 5 minutes to get here" Andy responded, motioning towards the door.

"Cadet, I've found you a GADGET and a med kit, here" Andy tosses it over. Andy didn't know this cadet, he didn't share any classes at the Academy, but Andy had already seen he has a short temper and that worried him, he can't control people who are irrational.

Hutton (Eng)::Deck 4, Aft(?)::Unknown::Unknown
Lentz (Med)::Secondary Sickbay, Deck 4, Aft::Healthy::Flashlight, GADGET (Medi)
Pedersen (Sec)::Secondary Sickbay, Deck 4, Aft::Healthy::Screwdriver, Duct Tape, Stanley Knife
Baklid (Tac)::Secondary Sickbay, Deck 4, Aft::Injured::
Jarman (Ops)::Secondary Sickbay, Deck 4, Aft::Healthy::

Cadet Pedersen has freed a stretcher from beneath a biobed and has it propped up next to her. She is waiting for Lentz to respond but it seems he’s suffering from some kind of shock, presumably in reaction to being broken apart atom by atom and then reassembled. He blinks a few times and takes the Medi-GADGET from Esser without a word, finally it looks like he’s about to speak when there is another bright blue glow and the injured Cadet Baklid materialises on the floor of the sickbay.

It seems like Lentz is on autopilot, he grits his teeth in frustration but quickly switches on the GADGET, crouches next to Baklid and starts performing scans; he seems to just be concluding and gets to his feet as yet another blue glow preempts the arrival of Cadet Jarman who raises a hand in greeting.

"How is he doing, doc?" Pedersen asks Cadet Lentz who is furiously tapping away at his GADGET. "Is there anything you need? The medicin cabinet over there seems well-stocked with anything you might require."

A blue glow behind her indicates another transport and she turns and sees Jarman appearing. She waves lightly, returning his greeting and walks over to him. "Welcome to the other side, it seems we all made it. Cadet Hutton is down the corridor in Engineering," she gestures in the direction of the door "if you need to talk to him. I was thinking of going there myself to see if he needed a hand with anything. Being Security I feel a bit out of my depth regarding internal sensors and RMTPs but I can bring and fetch."

She looks over at the Command Cadet, "Esser, how were things when you got here? Anything out of the ordinary? I can't believe the dock crew hasn't come on board yet, they must have noticed everyone's out of contact." She pauses, seemingly considering something. "Esser, you didn't happen to find a comm-PAC when you found that GADGET, did you? If we have one of those, we could try to contact the outside" Without waiting for an answer, she starts rummaging through the cupboards and cabinets in the room.

Not getting an answer from anyone, Cadet Pedersen decides it's time to go see if there's anything she can help Cadet Hutton with. Also, he's alone in Engineering, he might need assistance. She exits the door, walks down the corridor and pauses in front of the entrance to Engineering. As she enters, she thinks, "here's to hoping the techies have made some progress with internal sensors.. and perhaps external as well".

Andy was aware of another Cadet speaking to him, but before he'd had change to respond she had marched out of the door... Interesting...

He assumed she had headed to Engineering to check on Hutton, which was Andy's next port of call. He looked over at the medical Cadet.

"How's he doing Cadet? Anything I need to worry about?"

Moments after stepping onto the MKII Rapture platform, Cadet Jarman experiences a bright flash and is racked with nausea and extreme disorientation. The bright flash fades revealing a new room but it's out of focus and still spinning. Someone is talking to him but he can't make heads or tails of it. It sounds far off and muffled. The blurred figure leaves via some equally blurry doorway.

Jarman reaches with an outstretched arm and grabs hold of a bulkhead, closes his eyes and takes a few deep breaths. The disorientation slowly fades. He opens his eyes and the room is now in focus and the world makes sense again. "Urghhh... that was unpleasant." he says to no one in particular before seeing Cadets Esser and Lentz, with Baklid still unconscious on the ground next to him.

Suddenly, as if Jarman's input buffer has just started processing data properly, he now makes sense of what was said to him just after arriving. "Oh!" he exclaims and heads out the door after Pedersen - the first few steps a little wobbly.

Esser (Com)::Secondary Sickbay, Deck 4, Aft::Healthy::Scalpel, GADGET (Medi)
Hutton (Eng)::Deck 4, Aft(?)::Unknown::Unknown
Lentz (Med)::Secondary Sickbay, Deck 4, Aft::Healthy::Flashlight
Baklid (Tac)::Secondary Sickbay, Deck 4, Aft::Injured::

After a few moments of confusion Cadet Jarman blinks a few times, ignores the others in the room and stumbles out the door - it slides shut behind him with a quiet "woosh".

Esser is bemused by the whole thing but when he doesn't get an answer from the medical cadet he takes a step closer. Though he's physically fine it seems that events have caught up to Lentz and he simply hands over the GADGET before sitting himself down on a bio-bed.

He may not be a fully trained medic, but his command training included enough medical knowledge to get a good grasp of the scan results and Esser quickly realised that, although it has mostly congealed, it would be wise to clean and bandage the wound on Baklid's head before using a stimulant to rouse him. To be on the safe side he probably shouldn't be left alone either.

(None of his injuries are life threatening, bandages and a stim-jetjector (hypospray) are readily available from any of the first aid kits in the room).

After taking the GADGET from Cadet Lentz and sitting him down on one of the bio-beds, Andy did a scan of Baklid. Nothing major really, vitals were strong, maybe just a mild concussion.

Andy went and looked in one of the medical trolleys on the edge of the room and picked up some supplies to clean and dress the wound, and a stimulant to wake him, as right now we can't really afford to have people falling like flies.

He injects Baklid with the stimulant and starts to hear some groans, as he turns to stow away the supplies he'd used.

He didn't want to leave Baklid and Lentz alone, but he wanted an Update from engineering. He approached the door, which opened with a "Whoosh" to see if there was anyone nearby in the corridor outside.

After making sure that Baklid was coming around, Esser headed for the door and made his way to engineering.

It's easy enough to find, the double doors slide open and you are confronted by the sight of Cadet Jarman looking at a GADGET and Pedersen, knife in hand, moving over to look at the main engineering screen which has a progress bar filling up on it.

More concerning, however, are the blood splatters on the floor and wall near the terminal and the severed human arm laying in a pool of blood - it still has the tattered sleeve of a green engineering jump suit on it. There's also a small pool of vomit just off to one side.

Pedersen - you're not an expert but fortunately the screen is pretty unambiguous and you can see.
   Main Power Core Initiation Sequence: 0%[|||-------------------------------------]100%
There's no actual time on the screen but the progress bar is moving very slowly.

Jarman - it looks like this is just a vanilla GADGET, there is no PAC plugged in but it looks like the poor Cadet downloaded some data before whatever happened.

Cadet Pedersen's head jerks towards the door openening, body tense and alert but as she sees Cadet Esser enter, she visibly relaxes. "Maker, Esser, you scared me! Don't sneak up on people like that! Listen, something is very, very wrong onboard this ship, come take a look at this! I think this might be what's left of Hutton!" She points to the severed arm. "What do you make of it? You were first through and saw Hutton leave for Engineering, did you see or hear anything out of the ordinary?"

She takes a few fast steps towards the monitor updating in the background. "And look, the main power is far from up, which, I take it, means no internal sensors. Basically, the only way to find out what's going on is going out there." She gestures to the door, screwdriver still in her hand.

As if suddenly remembering, she stops her pacing. "Where is the doctor and injured guy, Cadet Baklid? Are they back in sickbay? I really think we should get them and all stick together. With our different skills, there is both strength and safety in numbers. Nothing good comes from splitting up before we get an overview of the situation."

As Andy walked into Engineering he noticed a number of things  of concern. Most notably what appeared to be a severed arm surrounded by blood. Cadet Pedersen had come running up to him and given him an update whilst waving the screwdriver around in her hand.

"Mind lowering the Screwdriver please, Cadet" Andy said, giving her a stern look.

"I've left them in Sickbay, neither are in a position to be moved at the moment. Give it a few minutes and we'll go grab them. We don't know if there is an actual threat, or if this is just a horrible accident. All we know is that arm belonged to an Engineer. Whether it was Hutton or not, we need to figure out."

"Maya? Is it? Head back to sickbay, check on the others and bring back the GADGET so we can do a DNA analysis on the arm. In the meantime, I'm going to have a look around Engineering, see if we can find the body that arm belongs to, I doubt with that much blood loss they're still alive"

Pedersen slowly lowers her arm with the screwdriver and pockets it next to the Stanley knife. "Don't mind if I do", she replies, glaring slightly at Cadet high-and-mighty-in-command. No, she thinks, that's not fair, he's just doing his job, not everyone aspiring to command is like those snobby bastards back at the academy.

Cadet Esser was right, she had jumped to the conclusion that the arm belonged to Hutton.. even if was what made most sense, since he'd just left for Engineering mere minutes before they found the limb.

But his tone, goodness! Manners maketh man! Until he'd proven his worth and capabilities, she'd have none of that, thank you very much. "Very well, Esser, I will PLEASE head back to sickbay and check on the others and yes, I will PLEASE bring back the Medi-PAC GADGET to examine the limb"

She heads for the door, carefully avoiding the soggy puddle of vomit poor Jarman created a while earlier. As she exits, she calls back to Esser. "And the name is Pedersen. At least for now".

"And the name is Pedersen. At least for now" The cadet called as the doors closed behind her.

What did I do? Andy thought to himself. I guess he'll just have to treat this crew softly softly from now on. Although in times of crisis it's important to have discipline and authority. Otherwise we'll all turn into a bunch of hysterical freaked out animals running around without a thought.

Andy turned towards the interior of Engineering, spying Jargon who was busy trying to regain himself.

"James? What are your thoughts?"
